Common misspelling
known-misspellingon by defaultJapanese / English
A common misspelling, such as "definately" or "seperate"
Example
How to fix
Correct the spelling. If the word is a name spelled that way on purpose, add it to names in chaff.yaml.
Why it matters
Some words are easy to misspell by ear or by habit ("definately", "seperate", "recieve"). A reader who notices one starts to doubt the rest of the document. The pairs of misspelling and spelling are in each language's lexicon, and chaff reports only the forms listed there. A form inside a longer word is not reported ("teh" in "Tehran").
What it does not flag
Misspellings not in the lexicon are not reported. Spellings that are both in use (British and American, judgement and judgment) are left to the consistency rules. A form inside a longer word ("teh" in "Tehran") and words listed under names in chaff.yaml are not reported.

Levels
Set a level for this rule under rules in chaff.yaml. With nothing set, it runs at the level its genre gives it (see By genre below).
| strict | error |
|---|---|
| normal | warning |
| relaxed | info |
This rule has no limit to count to. A level sets how a finding is marked: relaxed keeps the finding and marks it a step lower.
