Wrong kanji conversion
misconversionon by defaultJapanese
A wrong Japanese sound-alike picked by the input method (以外と for 意外と)
Example
How to fix
Correct the kanji.
Why it matters
Japanese input methods confuse words with the same reading (意外 and 以外, 初めて and 始めて, 確率 and 確立). Each is a real word, so the slip is hard to see. chaff looks only for forms its lexicon lists, where the words around make the slip certain (以外と簡単, 始めて会う, 確立が高い), or where the form is wrong by itself (不可決, 絶対絶命). A swap the context does not settle is not reported.
What it does not flag
A swap the surrounding words do not settle is not reported (以外と alone also appears in 日本以外と比べて, so only listed phrases such as 以外と簡単 are looked for). A form inside a longer word is not reported.
Turning it off or relaxing it
