Open list that a limit closes
nado-closed-liston by defaultJapanese / English
An open list (etc., and so on) that "only" or "limited to" closes
Example
How to fix
If only the items named are covered, delete "etc.". If others are too, name them, or drop the limit ("Collection covers furniture, bedding, bicycles and similar items").
Why it matters
"Collection covers furniture, bedding, bicycles, etc. only" leaves the list open (etc.: there are others) and closes it (only: nothing else) in the same breath. The reader cannot tell whether something not named is covered, and in a notice or an application guide that decides whether a request is accepted. chaff reports "etc.", "and so on" and "and the like" right before "only", or at the end of a list that "only" or "limited to" governs.
What it does not flag
Only "etc.", "and so on" and "and the like" right before "only", or at the end of a comma-separated list that "only", "limited to", "restricted to", "solely" or "exclusively" governs. A list with a verb between the limit and the open word ("Only members may use the gym, the pool, etc.": only governs members) is not reported, nor is "not only", "not limited to" or "including but not limited to". Nor is a list of examples in brackets after a word, when the limit stands after the bracket and governs that word ("staff (engineers, designers, etc.) only"). In Japanese, 等 that repeats a list the same sentence named before (指示等が … 当該指示等に限り) is not reported either.

"{open}" leaves the list open, but "{limit}" closes it
