How to fix

For a condition, write とき (認定を受けた時は → 認定を受けたときは). For a point in time, write 時から or 時に so that it reads as one.

Why it matters

Japanese legal drafting writes 時 for a point in time (相続開始の時から, "from the time the succession opens") and とき for a condition (認定を受けたときは, "if the approval is given"). With 認定を受けた時は the reader has to decide whether a moment or a condition is meant. Contracts and internal rules follow the statutes' usage. chaff reports 時 only after a clause that ends in a verb or an auxiliary and before は, には or も.

What it does not flag

時 for a point in time (相続開始の時から, 死亡した時に, 契約の終了の時まで), 時 after a noun or after その and ある (事故の時は, その時は), words such as 時効, 時間, 同時, 随時, 臨時, 当時, 時点 and 時期, and anything quoted in 「」 are not reported. Only the legal genres run this rule.

For a condition, legal Japanese writes "{matched}" as "{preferred}"
